Thank-you to all those who attended or supported our 2012 CJSTECI Conference. We hope to have information regarding next years 11th Annual Conference in January 2013 out in the near future.
 
Our 10th Annual NYS Conference for Criminal Justice Studies Technical Education Career Instructors will be held on:

January 25 - 27, 2012

at the Holiday Inn 205 Wolf Road, Albany, New York.


Conference Cost = Members - $160 before 1/6/12 after $220.
Non-Members – $185. before 1/6/12 after $220.

“Meet and network with fellow Career and Technical Education Criminal Justice / Security / Law related Instructors from around New York State.”

“Share ideas and ‘Best Practices’ with others in your field”

“A conference summary along with a slide-show presentation will be playing showing various programs that have sent in pictures”

We are requesting that all Instructors bring 60 copies of one lesson plan or class activity that they would like to share with their colleagues and examples of your student portfolios to share or display.

Those Instructors will be entered into a special drawing.

Thursday - January 26


8:00 a.m. – 8:50 a.m. – CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. – Session 1 - CYBER SECURITY - Judy Essig and DCJS Computer Crime Unit.
A training on the newer laws governing obscenity laws and how it relates to disseminating materials to minors and other related crimes. Changing techologies have created these laws being enforced in new and unique ways. Evaluation of these issues will allow instructors to assist students in understanding these complex crimes.
 
10:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. - Session 2 - CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY - Bernie Capron
A "Resident IT Genuis" from Queensbury High School will give us some of the changes in the technologies used in the classrooms today.  We will be made aware of some of these technologies that may be used by our students to circumvent the system and ways that we may fight their attempts.
 
11:00 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. - Session 3 -

12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. – LUNCH

1:00 p.m. - 1:50 p.m. – Session 4 – "DRUG TESTING" - Roger Cecee NY State Police (Retired)
Participants will be Instructed and Certified in Drug Testing.  Once certified, we may instruct our students and provide them with a "NY State Lifetime Certification" at a cost of $50.00 per student.

2:00 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. – Session 5 –  MOCK TRIAL - Stacey Whitney, NYS Bar Association.
This session will be an overview of a "Mock Trial" and "How to" set up and "Execute" a Mock Trial in your classroom.  This will provide you will the means to set up a meaningful training session for your students

3:00 p.m. - 3:50 p.m. -Session 6 - MOCK TRIAL PART II - Melissa Meyers.
During this session Conference Participants will perform a "Mock Trial" as set up.  We will have various Attorney's and a Judge to perform their actual duties with the participants playing various parts to complete the Mock Trial exercise.  May wish to extend this past the allotted time.

4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Regional Meetings with Regional Vice Presidents to finalize final reports.

5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – “HOSPITALITY SOCIAL”


As a courtesy to the "Keynote Speaker," it is suggested that members dress appropriately for the occasion.

Friday - January 27

8:00 a.m. - 8:50 a.m. – Full Breakfast Buffet

9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. – New York State Education Department. Cheryl Winstel, Associate in Trade and Technical Education will give us an update on new CTE emerging intitatives and the future direction of CTE.  The session will also include a question and answer session.

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - CJS/TECI Association Meeting
**This is a closed meeting open to CJS/TECI members ONLY.**

-Agenda- Goals and Objectives of our Association, membership status, treasurer’s report, regional standing Committees, next year’s conference, open floor.
